Payment methods
ACH and card details, processing times, fees, and the ACH return window.
Drypowder supports two payment methods through the Payments portal: ACH (bank transfer) and credit or debit card. Payments are processed through Moov, with bank account verification handled by Plaid.
ACH (bank transfer)
ACH payments transfer funds directly from the customer's bank account to the dealer's bank account through the Automated Clearing House network.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| How it works | Customer links their bank account through Plaid, then authorizes the ACH debit |
| Bank linking | First-time ACH payers verify their bank account through Plaid Link, a secure third-party service. Once linked, the account is saved for future payments. |
| Processing time | 1 to 3 business days from initiation to settlement |
| Fees | Flat per-transaction fee (lower than card fees) |
ACH returns
An ACH payment can be returned after settlement if the customer's bank rejects the transaction (insufficient funds, closed account, unauthorized). Returns typically surface within 2 to 5 business days after settlement.
Credit and debit card
Card payments are processed through standard card networks (Visa, Mastercard, and the rest) via Moov.
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| How it works | Customer enters card details or selects a saved card |
| Processing time | Near-real-time authorization. Settlement typically same business day. |
| Fees | Percentage of transaction amount plus flat per-transaction fee. Rates vary by card type (debit is lower than credit). |
Fee preview
Before submitting a payment, customers see a payment preview that shows:
- Selected invoices, debits, and credits with amounts.
- Payment method.
- Calculated fees.
- Statement discount, if the customer is paying a full statement within the discount window.
- Total amount due (including fees and net of any discount).
Fee configuration (who pays, rate structure) is set at the dealer level during onboarding.
Statement payment
For dealers who run monthly statements in Spruce, the Payments portal offers a Current Statement view alongside the standard outstanding view. From the Current Statement view, the customer can pay the full statement balance in a single transaction.
When the customer pays the full statement balance by the discount date set in Spruce, the Drypowder payment preview shows the statement discount automatically, and the discount is included in the GL posting back to Spruce so the customer's balance closes out correctly. Statement payments are ACH or card, the same as any other payment.
Payment method configuration
Dealers can configure preferred payment methods for incoming and outgoing payments through Drypowder admin settings. The payment configuration determines which methods are available to customers in the Payments portal.
